This is a Victoria Crowned Pigeon (Goura victoria). Its head-crest consists of laterally compressed white-tipped blue feathers in small individual fan-shaped clusters. When the head-crest is raised in territorial, breeding, or social displays, it fans out, giving the appearance of an exquisite lacy crown, hence its name (which also commemorates Queen Victoria of the UK). Sadly, this has attracted widespread hunting of the species and it is now considered vulnerable to extinction due to illegal hunting, logging, and habitat displacement via anthropocentric land development. Goura victoria lives in northern New Guinea and inhabits sago palm forests, swampland, and drier lowland regions.
No problem, m'dear. If you have any other questions on bird identification I would be happy to answer them for you. I am not an expert by any means, as my specialty is birds of prey, but I do have a friend from Australia so I have found myself researching quite a few avian species from the Australasian biogeographical zone.
Wonderful pictures! Keep up the good work!
And thanks so much for the favorite.
